Nearest town - Ballater 17 miles north

Noted for the most by � Royal Appointment� signs on the local shops, it also boasts a replica carriage in the Old Railway Station, when Royalty travelled to the area since Queen Victoria .� She would not allow the railway to go any further as it spoiled the landscape.� There has been a fire, June 2015 which destroyed all the above & shops, but are being re-built 2016. Watch this space/Visit Scotland.

Blairgowrie is 35miles to the south,is renowned for raspberries and strawberries, grown in and around this area. It also boasts a good sized Tesco's.

Shops in Braemar are 1 min (from the cottage) which is the Mountain Shop, 5 Invercauld Rd & cycle hire & ski hire specialists. �They also boast the Coffee Bothy- really high class food & service, wood burning stove too. �2017 saw them with accomodation pods(not pods as I know it), but 2 storey type houses for rent.

Linn o' Dee is a very picturesque local beauty spot 5miles east of Braemar.

Mar Lodge is a fantastic old shooting lodge, converted into holiday appartments, situated on Linn O Dee Rd, heading east out of village for 4 miles.� This is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland.� A very popular wedding venue,holidays,conference centre and most beautiful sporting highland estate. Family activities are amongst others are Bats & beasties, fungi forays, tours round the stag ballroom & grounds, walk & stalk, look for info on lamp posts or visitor centre in village.

Camping� can be had at the Invercauld Caravan club site which is leaving the village on the Glenshee rd on the right hand side. 2014 - This site has been taken over by Invercauld Est, also cabins 2017.

The Youth Hostel is opposite on the left.� There are various bunkhouse accommodation to be had in the village.

Crathie Kirk is 9 miles towards Aberdeen, this is where the Royal family worship every Sunday when they holiday at Balmoral Castle, situated over the bridge and is open to the public from Easter to 31st July every summer.� Again open on smaller scale during winter months.

Lochnager Whisky Distillery is a little further on and look for the sign, past the castle gates, on the right off the south Deeside road.

Crathie Opportunity Holidays is past the Visitor Centre and has the latest facilities for the disabled and their families & carers.

Church Services Braemar Parish church is behind The Mews, services on Sunday at 9.45 am and at Crathie Kirk, Sunday at 11.30am.
